Engage Talent Partners are working with our exclusive client to source a Lead Designer to join their established and growing team. Based just South of Aberdeen, the company operates in the oil and gas, nuclear and energy sectors and you would be joining them during a very exciting time. The business has enjoyed a successful year to date with some high-profile contract wins and has aspirations to grow over the next few years.
You will be responsible for leading both the mechanical and electrical design teams, covering all aspects of the design process. You will lead design reviews, take design concepts through the entire life-cycle, and mentor and guide designers of all levels ensuring competency and efficiency through the team.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the delivery of multiple concurrent design projects, ensuring work is completed to schedule, budget and quality requirements.
- Oversee design activities from initial concept through to manufacture, providing practical and innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Maintain and develop design processes, standards and documentation to support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, client specifications and internal procedures.
- Produce, review and approve 2D and 3D design outputs, while maintaining accurate records within the company's CAD and document management systems.
- Chair and participate in design reviews, risk assessments and technical evaluations.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and technical guidance to designers at all levels, supporting their professional development and promoting best practice.
- Review and approve technical documentation, engineering reports and design deliverables to ensure accuracy, manufacturability and compliance.
- Work closely with engineering, project management and workshop teams to support the successful build, assembly and testing of equipment.
- Contribute to the development of new products and enhancements to existing solutions, helping drive innovation across the business.
- Support tendering, proposals and project execution activities.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with applications such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, and will be competent in reviewing and approving engineering documents such as P&IDs, layouts, and general arrangement drawings. They should have a strong understanding of relevant industry standards, ideally including power and piping codes, and demonstrate excellent proficiency in hydraulic systems, as well as pump and valve selection.
The role requires previous experience in a senior design position, along with a qualification of HNC or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or CAD-related engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
