We’re looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager with a strong electrical background and solid mechanical knowledge to lead maintenance operations at our Tranent site. This is a hands-on leadership role in a heavy engineering and manufacturing environment, working with CNC machinery, cranes, and other complex equipment. You’ll be responsible for planning, delivering, and continuously improving maintenance strategies to ensure maximum equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency. Your expertise will drive uptime and performance across the site while leading a small, skilled maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Strategy & Planning
    • Develop and implement a robust Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) program to optimise plant availability.
    • Oversee electrical inspections, testing, and compliance activities.
    • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment, including CNC machinery and cranes.
    • Maintain and improve maintenance systems and records for full site coverage.
  • Reactive Maintenance & Troubleshooting
    • Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
    • Diagnose and resolve faults using strong electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic knowledge.
    • Prioritise and close out defects identified during inspections.
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all maintenance activities meet HSE standards and company policies.
    • Manage statutory inspections, certifications, and accurate record-keeping.
    • Conduct routine safety checks, including fire alarms and emergency lighting.
  • Contractor & Supplier Management
    • Source and manage third-party contractors for specialist repairs and installations.
    • Negotiate competitive rates and ensure quality, safe delivery of services.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Lead, coach, and develop a small maintenance team.
    • Collaborate effectively with Operations, Supervisors, and QHSE teams.
  • Workshop Organisation
    • Maintain clean, safe, and efficient workshops using 5S principles.
