SEMH Teaching Assistant needed for a school in Hassocks

You will be supporting children with varied needs such as high-functioning ASC

We are looking for a committed and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and proactive primary school in Hassocks. This role focuses on supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs as well as some with additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition and Sensory Behavioural Difficulties.

Our team has built an excellent reputation within the local community, and we are seeking dedicated professionals who can make a positive impact on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.

Your Responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and associated needs
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote engagement and minimise disruption
  • Offer constructive feedback to teachers and parents regarding pupil progress and challenges
  • Support children with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, Severe Learning Difficulties, and other complex needs
  • Promote emotional regulation strategies and create a safe, supportive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach to supporting children
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with pupils
  • Enthusiasm for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential
  • Flexibility and resilience – no two days are the same in a special school setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH is highly desirable
