English Teacher

We are working with a fantastic provision in Hailsham who are looking for the right individual to join their team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting children with Social and Emotional Needs, and able to teach KS3. A strong sense of behaviour management is important.

This is a two day per week role on Thursdays and Fridays within a Year 10 class – it is a job share with someone coming back from Maternity Leave on a part-time basis.

The role will cover a range of subjects but in particular they are looking for an English Specialist who can help support the children in English.

The students take part in a range of activities to enhance their learning, and they are supported, challenged and encouraged to succeed, both academically and pastorally.

This special school caters for pupils aged 11-16 years who have complex and SEMH (Social and Emotional Mental Health) needs. In addition to their learning difficulties some pupils have other needs associated with Autistic Spectrum Condition, speech, language and communication difficulties. It is the job of staff to provide a secure, consistent, structured environment where children can work to overcome and manage those issues in order to engage in education and achieve their potential.

• Working with students who have complex needs, challenging behaviours, attachment and trauma.
• This is a setting where having a calm, nurturing and empathetic nature is key
• Some experience within SEND / SEMH preferable not necessity
• Passionate about supporting students and their social and emotional journey

What do I need?

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Flexibility, enthusiasm and motivation to deliver great lessons
• Understanding of SEMH and Autism
• Understanding of Secondary Curriculum
• Behaviour management skills
• An ability to adhere to and implement schools’ various policies
