Positive Behaviour Assistant Required for School in Lancing. Engage Education is currently recruiting a Positive Behaviour Assistant to join an all-through school in Lancing, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides specialist support for pupils with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs across both the primary and secondary settings. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across both phases, supporting pupils according to the needs of the school.

The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning. Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH, particularly those with attachment and trauma-related needs, would be highly desirable. Experience working with children and young people who display challenging behaviour is important, alongside a calm, consistent and proactive approach to behaviour management. Training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates with a range of relevant experience who are looking to develop their career within specialist education. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

Your Role

  • Supporting pupils across the primary and secondary settings with a range of SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Working flexibly across different age groups according to the needs of the school
  • Building positive, trusting relationships and acting as a consistent role model for pupils
  • Using appropriate strategies to support pupils who are distressed or dysregulated, including effective de-escalation techniques
  • Supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils remain engaged in learning
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff to minimise disruption and promote a positive learning environment
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
  • Providing appropriate feedback to teachers and the wider school team regarding pupil behaviour, engagement and progress
  • Remaining calm, adaptable and proactive when responding to challenging situations
  • Working full‑time, 8:15am – 3:30pm

  • Can remain calm and composed in difficult or unpredictable situations
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is able to build strong relationships and rapport with pupils
  • Can think on their feet and take a proactive approach to supporting pupils
  • Is adaptable and understands that every day in a specialist setting can be different
  • Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour, attachment or trauma is desirable but not essential
  • Holds GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
