Engage Education is working with a supportive and well-established school in Burgess Hill to recruit a full-time School Caretaker. This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable and proactive individual to join a busy site team and help maintain a safe, secure, and well-presented learning environment across multiple school sites. The successful candidate will primarily be based in Burgess Hill, with occasional travel required to other local school sites.

About the role

  • Opening and closing the school site daily
  • Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and site checks
  • Ensuring the school premises remain safe, clean, and secure
  • Supporting health & safety procedures across the school
  • Assisting with room setups and school events where required
  • Liaising with contractors and external visitors on site
  • Supporting the upkeep of multiple school sites when needed
  • Reporting maintenance issues promptly and effectively

Working pattern

  • Full-time position
  • Split shifts are expected when working at the Burgess Hill base school
  • Non-split shifts are typically worked when supporting other school sites
  • Mileage can be claimed for travel from the base school to other school locations

About you

  • Previous caretaking, site, or maintenance experience is desirable
  • Good DIY and practical maintenance skills
  • Strong understanding of health & safety procedures
  • Reliable, flexible, and hardworking approach
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Full UK driving licence and a car is required due to travel between sites
