We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Secondary SEND Teacher to join a specialist school supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will play a key role in delivering personalised learning programmes that help students develop academically, socially, emotionally, and independently, preparing them for successful futures.
- Plan and Deliver Personalised Learning: Design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the diverse learning needs of students with SEND, ensuring access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Promote Academic, Social and Emotional Development: Support students in developing essential skills, confidence, communication, and self-esteem whilst encouraging positive engagement in learning.
- Develop and Review Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, families, therapists, and external professionals to set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets.
- Prepare Students for Adulthood: Embed life skills, independence, employability, and functional learning opportunities into teaching, helping students prepare for further education, training, employment, and adult life.
- Monitor and Assess Progress: Track student achievement through ongoing assessment, adapting teaching strategies and interventions to maximise progress and engagement.
- Foster a Positive and Inclusive Learning Environment: Create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom culture where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
- Work as Part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team: Collaborate closely with colleagues, therapists, pastoral staff, and families to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s development and wellbeing.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification. (Preferred not required)
- Experience teaching students with SEND, either within a specialist setting or mainstream environment.
- Strong understanding of adapting the secondary curriculum to meet a wide range of learning needs.
- Experience supporting students with needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Creativity, patience, resilience, and a flexible approach to teaching.
- Knowledge of alternative communication strategies, assistive technology, or interventions that support SEND learners would be advantageous.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
