The Role: As a PMLD Teacher, you will lead a small, well-supported class of pupils with complex needs, delivering highly individualised lessons that promote communication, sensory engagement, and personal development. Working closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and medical staff, you’ll ensure that every learner’s needs are met holistically in a safe and stimulating environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Personalised Lessons: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that support sensory, physical, and communication development.
- Holistic Support: Focus on developing communication, independence, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with Specialists: Work alongside therapists, support assistants, and healthcare professionals to meet each pupil’s physical and educational needs.
- Assistive Communication: Use tools such as PECS, Makaton, and AAC to support expressive and receptive communication.
- EHCP Management: Contribute to and review Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring all targets are relevant and achievable.
- Behaviour and Care Support: Maintain a positive, safe classroom environment, supporting learners with physical and emotional regulation.
- Track Progress: Record and monitor pupil progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps for development.
- Family Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and carers, keeping them updated on progress and celebrating successes.

- A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or equivalent).
- Experience teaching pupils with PMLD, SLD, or complex SEND needs.
