About the role
At Engage Education, we’ve specialised in recruiting education staff for over a decade, so we know what makes a great school and a great role. We’re currently looking for a caring and enthusiastic Reception Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Mitcham from the start of the next academic year. This is a fantastic full-time, long-term opportunity to work within a supportive Early Years team for the entire academic year. You’ll play a key role in helping Reception pupils settle into school life, supporting their learning and development, and ensuring they have the best possible start to their education.
The school is looking for someone who is patient, proactive and passionate about Early Years, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the class teacher with the delivery of engaging Reception lessons
- Working with individuals and small groups to develop early literacy, numeracy and communication skills
- Supporting pupils through play-based learning in line with the EYFS curriculum
- Encouraging children’s social, emotional and personal development
- Assisting with classroom preparation and creating stimulating learning environments
- Helping to monitor children’s progress and celebrate their achievements
- Providing additional support for children with varying learning needs where required
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging independence
- Following safeguarding and school policies at all times
The ideal applicant will have:
- Experience working with children in an Early Years or primary school setting
- Knowledge of the EYFS Framework is desirable
- A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is advantageous but not essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A positive, enthusiastic and nurturing approach
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
