We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic PE Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with additional needs through physical education, helping to build confidence, wellbeing, and engagement.
The Role
You will support the delivery of inclusive and adapted PE lessons for students with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and complex learning difficulties. Working closely with the PE Teacher and wider staff team, you will help ensure all students can access and enjoy physical activity in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of adapted and inclusive PE lessons
- Assist students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, including those with additional needs
- Help set up equipment and ensure a safe learning environment
- Encourage participation, engagement, and positive behaviour
- Support extracurricular activities, sports events, and wellbeing initiatives
Requirements
- A strong interest in sport and physical activity
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN setting
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
- Experience supporting students with SEN (ASC, SEMH, etc.)
- Relevant qualifications in sport, coaching, or education
