Engage Education is working in partnership with a large, welcoming primary school in Wythenshawe to recruit an experienced Year 1 Teaching Assistant.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive Key Stage 1 team where you’ll play a key role in helping pupils develop the literacy skills they need to succeed. The school places a strong emphasis on phonics and early reading, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who is confident delivering high-quality interventions and supporting children to achieve their full potential.
Experience delivering Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics is essential, as you will be leading phonics sessions and supporting pupils in line with the school’s established programme.
About the Role
As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support teaching and learning within a busy and engaging Year 1 classroom
- Deliver Read Write Inc. phonics sessions confidently and consistently
- Lead small group and 1:1 interventions to support reading, writing and phonics development
- Work alongside the class teacher to raise attainment and close learning gaps
- Prepare classroom resources and support the delivery of engaging lessons
- Encourage positive behaviour and promote children’s confidence and independence
- Adapt support to meet the needs of all learners, including those requiring additional support
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment where every child can thrive

- Experienced supporting children within Key Stage 1
- Confident delivering Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics (essential)
- Passionate about early literacy and helping children become confident readers
- Patient, enthusiastic and able to build positive relationships with pupils
- Proactive, organised and an excellent team player
- Committed to helping every child achieve their very best
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a UK primary school
- Practical experience delivering Read Write Inc. phonics
- A good understanding of the Year 1 curriculum
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
