The role is to work in a highly specialised alternative education setting supporting young people aged 10–17 who require education within a safe, structured and therapeutic environment. The provision forms part of an integrated service offering education, care, health and behavioural support to young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, many of whom have experienced disrupted education or significant trauma. The aim is simple:

The Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Motor Vehicle Studies Instructor to lead an engaging vocational programme that inspires young people through practical, hands-on learning. You will deliver motor vehicle maintenance and mechanical skills in a workshop environment, helping learners gain confidence, accreditation and employability skills. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in alternative provision, youth justice, PRU, SEND or vocational training environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical motor vehicle maintenance and repair sessions
- Plan differentiated vocational learning suited to varied ability levels
- Support young people who may display challenging behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
- Embed functional maths, literacy and employability skills within practical learning
- Maintain workshop safety standards and risk assessments
- Contribute to personalised education plans and progress reviews
- Work collaboratively with education, care and therapeutic teams

Essential Requirements
- Level 3 (or above) qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance/Engineering
- Relevant industry experience as a mechanic or technician
- Experience working with young people or adults in education, training or mentoring
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
Desirable
- Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or willingness to work towards)
- Experience within alternative provision, PRU, youth justice or residential care
- Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practice
- Experience delivering accredited vocational qualifications
