Are you a passionate Maths Tutor looking to make a genuine difference to young people who need it most? Engage Education is working in partnership with a well-established Alternative Provision in Leeds to recruit a dedicated Maths Tutor to join their team either immediately or from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance, and behavioural challenges. The setting offers a highly personalised approach to learning, small class sizes, and a strong commitment to helping every learner achieve their potential.

The Role

As a Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging and tailored lessons to students working across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will help learners rebuild confidence in education, improve attainment, and develop the skills needed for future success. You will work closely with pastoral teams, SEND professionals, families and external agencies to ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Maths lessons to small groups and individual learners.
  • Differentiating learning to meet a range of educational needs and abilities.
  • Support learners with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Create a positive, structured and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor, assess and record student progress.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage engagement and attendance.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals.
  • Support students to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and student welfare at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Desirable: Degree in Mathematics or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths at KS3 and/or KS4.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learner needs.
  • Passion for improving outcomes for students facing barriers to education.

Additional

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience within Alternative Provision, PRU, SEND or SEMH settings.
  • Experience working with EHCPs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.
