The role: As an Autism Learning Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students with special educational needs to achieve their full potential. Working within a vibrant and inclusive SEN school, you’ll provide tailored support to children and young people with Autism, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

Your responsibilities:

  • Delivering individualised support: Work closely with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans, ensuring that each student’s unique needs and abilities are supported.
  • Creating a stimulating environment: Assist in creating a nurturing, engaging, and creative learning environment that inspires students to explore, learn, and grow.
  • Encouraging communication: Use communication aids such as Makaton and PECS to help students express themselves, while promoting their confidence and independence.
  • Supporting classroom activities: Help facilitate lessons and activities that are both educational and enjoyable, adapting them as needed to ensure inclusivity for all students.
  • Providing personal care: Offer compassionate support with daily care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility, to ensure the well-being and comfort of every child.
  • Building relationships: Develop strong and trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a collaborative and positive atmosphere within the school.
  • Monitoring progress: Observe and document student progress, sharing insights with teachers and therapists to continuously improve their learning experience.
