Engage Education is working in partnership with a highly respected specialist educational setting in Calderdale to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Learning & Behaviour Support Assistant. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people with a range of complex needs, including Autism, learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, and behaviours that may challenge. The school provides a highly personalised, therapeutic approach where every student is supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

About the Role

As a Learning & Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and families, you will support pupils on an individual and small-group basis, helping them develop confidence, independence and positive outcomes. This role goes beyond traditional classroom support. You will become a trusted adult, helping students build relationships, regulate emotions, develop life skills and engage successfully in education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to students on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and achievement.
  • Support students with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
  • Assist with personalised learning programmes and individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation.
  • Support pupils during lessons, enrichment activities, educational visits and wider school life.
  • Record and monitor student progress, achievements and well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals.
  • Encourage independence, resilience and self-confidence.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students at all times.
