Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and Deliver Tailored Maths Lessons: Create engaging and differentiated mathematics lessons that meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and EHCP outcomes of students across KS3 and KS4.
  • Develop Mathematical Understanding and Confidence: Support students in building core numeracy, problem-solving, and functional maths skills while fostering confidence and a positive attitude towards learning mathematics.
  • Adapt the Curriculum for SEN Learners: Modify resources, teaching approaches, and assessment methods to ensure all students can access and progress within the maths curriculum.
  • Develop and Review Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, parents, and external professionals to set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets.
  • Prepare Students for Life Beyond School: Deliver practical and functional mathematics that supports students’ preparation for further education, employment, independent living, and everyday life.
  • Monitor and Assess Progress: Track student achievement and development through ongoing assessment, adapting teaching strategies to maximise progress and engagement.
  • Create a Positive Learning Environment: Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture that promotes resilience, self-belief, and respect for others.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with colleagues, therapists, pastoral teams, and external agencies to provide holistic support for students.
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level.
  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or a specialist SEN qualification (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary Maths curriculum, particularly KS3 and KS4.
  • Experience adapting maths teaching for students with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and other additional learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity, patience, and resilience when supporting students with diverse learning profiles.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and alternative communication methods is advantageous.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
