Engage Education is working with a specialist school in Hastings to recruit a dedicated and experienced Premises Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to take responsibility for the maintenance, security, and day-to-day management of a busy school site. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the school environment remains safe, secure, compliant, and well-maintained, supporting both staff and students to thrive.
About the role:
- Managing the security of the school site, including opening and closing procedures
- Acting as the primary key holder and responding to site emergencies when required
- Overseeing building maintenance, repairs, and planned preventative maintenance
- Managing contractors and monitoring the quality of completed works
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations across the site
- Monitoring fire safety systems, alarms, and emergency procedures
- Managing premises-related budgets, purchasing, and service contracts
- Organising maintenance projects and site improvements during school closure periods
- Maintaining school grounds to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
- Managing traffic flow and site safety arrangements
- Overseeing school vehicle maintenance, servicing, and bookings where required
- Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance tasks, and site inspections
- Supporting school events and ensuring facilities are prepared as required
- Maintaining accurate records relating to premises, compliance, and contractor activity
Working pattern:
- Full-time, 37 hours per week
- Year-round position (52 weeks per year)
- Split shifts are expected to support site opening and closing requirements
- Typical working hours may be: 7:00am – 10:30am, 2:30pm – 6:00pm
- Flexibility may occasionally be required to support school events, lettings, or emergency situations
- Annual leave is generally taken during school closure periods
About you:
- Previous experience in premises, facilities, estates, caretaking, or site management
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance requirements
- Practical maintenance and repair skills across a range of building systems
- Experience managing contractors and external service providers
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
- Competent IT skills for record keeping and compliance monitoring
- Full UK driving licence
- Knowledge of school premises management is desirable
