Special Needs Support needed for a welcoming and growing school in Eastbourne. About the role:
- Supporting the class teacher to ensure children are appropriately supported.
- Working with children 1-1, conducting activities to promote development and engagement.
- Supporting children with a range of needs: Autism, ADHD, Pathological Demand Avoidance, Speech and Language challenges.
- Monday to Friday, 8.25am – 3.30pm.
About you:
- Compassionate and pro-active.
- Intuitive and sensitive to children and their needs.
- Versatile and able to work on your feet – schools can be fast-paced and no day is the same.
- Previous experience is preferable but not essential.
Training will be provided on the following areas:
- Enhanced Safeguarding Pathway: Keeping children safe whilst in your care is our number one priority. Our enhanced Safeguarding pathway will help you understand your role in child protection, how to spot signs of abuse, ensure accurate reporting, and support students in protecting themselves online.
- How to be a great Teaching Assistant: This course will teach you about personal and professional conduct in schools, the basics of teaching and learning, how to effectively work with other teachers, and how to go above and beyond to support your students.
- Special Needs Awareness Pathway: This course will cover aspects of Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Attachment Disorder, Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and ADHD, providing a basic understanding of how to reach all pupils in your class.
- Differentiating your approach to safeguarding with SEND pupils: It is crucial to put in place additional parameters to support vulnerable students.
- Understanding the link between Abuse and Mental Health: This short course looks at how abuse may influence Mental Health issues affecting access to learning.
- Enable Children to Feel Safe: Taking an informed approach to children with special needs creates a space where they can thrive.
- Managing Pupils Behaviour to Improve Learning: This course helps you look at how to help students focus and reduce behavioural issues.
- Effectively Working with Other Adults in School: This course focuses on working effectively with other staff in SEND schools to protect the welfare of children.
