About the Role
As a Construction Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging vocational programmes that provide learners with practical experience across a range of construction disciplines. You will adapt learning to meet individual needs while promoting personal development, communication skills, and workplace readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, practical Construction lessons tailored to the needs and abilities of learners with SEND.
- Teach a range of construction skills, including carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, maintenance, and health and safety awareness.
- Create personalised learning opportunities that support Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
- Develop learners’ employability, communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills through vocational learning.
- Assess, monitor, and record learner progress against individual targets and qualification criteria.
- Promote safe working practices and maintain high standards of health and safety within workshop environments.
- Prepare learners for work experience placements, supported internships, apprenticeships, and future employment opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with learning support assistants, therapists, parents/carers, employers, and external agencies.
- Support learners’ personal development, independence, and preparation for adulthood.
Person Specification
Essential
- Teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
- Relevant industry experience within the construction sector.
- Strong practical knowledge of construction methods, tools, materials, and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to adapt teaching and learning to meet a range of additional learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to inclusive education and learner‑centred practice.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education.
Desirable
- Experience working within an SEN School, College, or Alternative Provision setting.
- Experience supporting learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Knowledge of vocational qualifications such as City & Guilds, BTEC, ASDAN, or Entry Level programmes.
- Experience delivering employability and Preparation for Adulthood programmes.
- Assessor qualification or experience of vocational assessment.
