Engage Education is working with a friendly and well-established school in Chichester to recruit a reliable School Caretaker for a full-time position starting in September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with practical maintenance skills who enjoys working in a school environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, clean, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.

About the role:

  • Opening and closing the school site, carrying out daily security checks
  • Completing general maintenance, repairs, and decorating where required
  • Ensuring the buildings and grounds are safe, tidy, and well presented
  • Carrying out routine health and safety inspections
  • Monitoring heating, lighting, and other building systems
  • Liaising with contractors and supporting planned maintenance works
  • Setting up rooms and equipment for meetings, events, and school activities
  • Managing deliveries and assisting with moving furniture and equipment
  • Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring they are resolved promptly

About you:

  • Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or a similar role is desirable
  • Practical DIY and maintenance skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures
  • Able to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive
