Engage Education is working with a friendly and well-established school in Chichester to recruit a reliable School Caretaker for a full-time position starting in September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with practical maintenance skills who enjoys working in a school environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, clean, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.
About the role:
- Opening and closing the school site, carrying out daily security checks
- Completing general maintenance, repairs, and decorating where required
- Ensuring the buildings and grounds are safe, tidy, and well presented
- Carrying out routine health and safety inspections
- Monitoring heating, lighting, and other building systems
- Liaising with contractors and supporting planned maintenance works
- Setting up rooms and equipment for meetings, events, and school activities
- Managing deliveries and assisting with moving furniture and equipment
- Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring they are resolved promptly
About you:
- Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or a similar role is desirable
- Practical DIY and maintenance skills
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures
- Able to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
- Reliable, organised, and proactive
- Strong communication skills
- Willing to take pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment
- Full UK driving licence is desirable
