Whether you have recently left education or are looking for a career change, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship specialising in SEND support offers the perfect opportunity to learn while working in a vibrant and inclusive school environment. Learning is delivered both in-person and online during your working hours and can be completed within your first year at the school – with all costs fully covered by your employer.

About the role

This SEND Teaching Assistant Apprentice role is based in an SEND School in Islington for children with visual impairment, hearing impairment and multi-sensory impairment as well as ASD, ADHD and some challenging behaviour. The students are between the ages of 2 to 19 and work at varying levels with specialist centres for students for PMLD and for those following the national curriculum and GCSEs and BETEC.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEND needs on a one-to-one basis or within small groups
  • Assisting teachers in the planning and delivery of differentiated lessons
  • Helping pupils with their educational, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Preparing specialist classroom resources
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to staff and parents

As part of your apprenticeship, you will complete specialist workshops designed to develop your expertise in SEND support, including:

  • The SEND landscape in the UK
  • Safeguarding in SEND
  • Adaptive Curriculum Design
  • Innovative Assessments for SEND pupils
  • SEND Milestones and Strategies to Support Pupils
  • Understanding Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia
  • Responding to Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
  • Supporting pupils with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN)
