This is a full-time role based in Leeds, UK. We offer hybrid working and flexible hours to everyone in the team, but this is not a fully remote opportunity and we require you to be in the office for at least 3 days a week.

As a Middleweight UX / UI Designer at Engage, you are a confident and capable creative who delivers high‑quality, user‑centred digital experiences across websites, apps, and interactive platforms with minimal oversight. You combine strategic UX thinking with polished UI design to create intuitive, engaging, and visually compelling interfaces that align with client objectives and brand guidelines.
You will take ownership of UX / UI design tasks from research and wireframing through to high‑fidelity design and handover, collaborating closely with developers, project managers, and other designers. At this stage, you are expected to be proactive in identifying user and business needs, influencing creative standards, and mentoring junior team members in UX / UI best practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead UX / UI design for projects from concept to delivery, with minimal supervision
- Conduct and interpret user research, usability testing, and competitor analysis to inform design decisions
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and design systems using tools such as Figma
- Design high‑quality, responsive UI components and layouts that align with brand and accessibility standards
- Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently
- Proactively seek peer and senior feedback to refine and push creative and functional quality
- Confidently review own work against objectives before seeking sign‑off
- Mentor junior designers on UX / UI best practice and tools
- Stay up to date with UX / UI trends, patterns, and emerging technologies
Operational
- Manage own workload independently, balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Log time accurately in Productive, ensuring efficient use of billable hours
- Communicate confidently with internal teams and, where relevant, clients to present and explain UX / UI decisions
- Proactively identify potential challenges in user experience and propose solutions early
- Contribute actively to team critiques, offering constructive and actionable feedback on UX and UI work
- Ensure all work meets Engage’s Attention to Digital™ standards before sharing, with minimal amends required at senior sign‑off
Requirements
- 2–5 years of UX / UI design experience, preferably in an agency environment
- High proficiency in Figma and confidence using Adobe CC for complementary design work
- Strong understanding of UX principles including information architecture, user flows, wireframing, and prototyping
- Experience collaborating with developers and an understanding of HTML / CSS capabilities and limitations
- Proven ability to design accessible, responsive, and visually consistent UI
- A strong portfolio showcasing UX process work and high‑quality UI design for digital products
