Apprentice Teaching Assistant – PMLD

Location: Openshaw, Manchester Role: Teaching Assistant – PMLD Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (Apprenticeship) Contract: Full-time Start Date: ASAP

Engage Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Openshaw, Manchester, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, SEND professional or someone with relevant care experience who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide individualised support to pupils throughout the school day, helping them to access learning and develop their communication, independence and social skills.

You will be responsible for

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD.
  • Supporting pupils to engage with their personalised learning programmes.
  • Assisting with communication and sensory-based activities.
  • Supporting pupils' physical, emotional and social development.
  • Helping with personal care where required.
  • Following individual education, healthcare and care plans.
  • Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • Previous experience working with SEND, PMLD or complex needs.
  • Experience working within a school, care or support setting.
  • A patient, calm and compassionate approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Relevant experience is desirable but not essential β€” Engage Education are keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude who are looking to develop their career within SEND education.
