School Art Technician based in Barking. We are currently recruiting for an Art Technician for a large secondary school in Barking to start in September 2026. This is a contract role until October half term initially, so applications are welcome from those looking for some short term work at the start of the school year.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Art Technician to join the Art Department. The Art Technician will provide a wide range of practical, technical, and administrative support to enable the efficient running of the department.
Art Technician responsibilities include:
- Prepare practical equipment and other materials on time for lessons
- Clean and tidy classrooms after lessons have taken place
- Wash up and clean equipment and put away appropriately
- Preparation of canvases and boards for painting
- Download images from digital cameras and maintain photographic equipment
- Assist teaching staff with practical assistance in lessons and art club
- If a teacher is absent, ensure that the correct equipment is available in their room at the right time as per their cover lesson notes
- Maintenance, storage, and preparation of resources for the successful delivery of lessons, workshops, and demonstrations
- Maintenance, upkeep and organisation of equipment and art supplies both in storage cupboards and all classrooms across the department to include the office
- Cutting paper and keeping a good supply in all rooms
- Monitoring supply of stock in all classrooms and cupboards to ensure sensible stock levels are maintained at all times and place orders when necessary
- Preparing photocopies and resources to support teacher and pupils needs
About you:
- Experience working in a school environment as an Art/DT Technician
- A relevant undergraduate degree in an Art related subject
- A background in an art related subject and a practical knowledge of working with a range of art materials and equipment
- A passion for working in a school environment
