About the Role

We are currently recruiting a 1:1 KS2 Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming primary school in Leeds, supporting a child with additional needs within a Key Stage 2 classroom.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support, helping the pupil access the curriculum, overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence and independence.
The Role – KS2 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil within a KS2 classroom.
- Supporting the child to access the national curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
- Adapting learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs and abilities.
- Supporting communication, social interaction and positive relationships with peers.
- Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement with learning.
- Supporting emotional regulation and implementing appropriate behaviour management strategies where required.
- Delivering targeted learning activities and interventions under the guidance of the class teacher.
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to follow individual support plans and monitor progress.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience supporting children with additional needs, ideally within a primary school.
- Experience working with KS2-aged children.
- An understanding of different special educational needs, such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties or learning disabilities.
- Confidence providing dedicated 1:1 support.
- A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
- A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
Experience within a mainstream primary school or specialist SEND setting would be particularly advantageous.
