About the role

You will be leading lessons and covering in the absence of class teachers for varying subjects across schools in Bracknell. These schools are committed to innovation and creating a well-balanced learning environment for students.

If requested, you can receive training via Engage Education. This role involves very little planning and marking. It’s an excellent opportunity to work within supportive schools whose core principles are to challenge, evolve, and nurture pupils.

What a typical day looks like

  • Arrival & Sign-in: On arrival, you’ll sign in at reception and receive your timetable for the day.
  • Lesson Preparation: Head to your first classroom in time to welcome students.
  • Taking the Register: Record attendance promptly at the start of each lesson.
  • Delivering the Lesson: Supervise and guide students through pre-planned work left by the class teacher.
  • Behaviour Management: Maintain a positive and focused learning environment using the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Transition Between Lessons: Move between classrooms according to your timetable, ensuring a smooth start to each session.
  • End of Day: Return any completed student work to the appropriate place and sign out.

About you

  • Experience working with students aged 11–16
  • Flexibility to cover different subjects
  • Confidence in managing classroom behaviour
  • Ability to build rapport with students
  • A fun but firm presence in the classroom
  • An interest in education and student development

We welcome applications from candidates with all levels of experience, though prior work with students who have challenging behaviour is an advantage. If you are an aspiring teacher or an experienced cover supervisor, this could be the perfect role for you. Candidates with experience as Youth Workers or Behaviour Mentors are also encouraged to apply.
