We are working with a specialist primary school in Sheffield that is urgently seeking term time only support staff to support pupils with autism. This role is ideal for individuals from support work, residential care, sports coaching, youth work, or graduate backgrounds who are passionate about helping children with additional needs to thrive in a nurturing, structured environment.
The school supports primary-aged pupils with autism and complex needs, offering a calm, child-centred approach that focuses on communication, emotional regulation, and social development. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, build independence, and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
You will be supporting pupils with a range of needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), both verbal and non-verbal
- Learning difficulties
- Complex needs and sensory processing challenges
The school welcomes applicants who have experience supporting children with autism or who demonstrate a strong passion for special educational needs. Experience in support work, residential care, sports coaching, youth work, or working with children will be highly beneficial.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be proactive, patient, and adaptable
- Have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs (professional or personal)
- Be confident building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Show enthusiasm for supporting pupils' learning, communication, and emotional development
- Have a calm and consistent approach to behaviour and routines
- Experience delivering workshops, practical activities, or Theatre in Education (TIE) is advantageous but not essential.
