The Haven Centre is looking for a Café Assistant to support the day-to-day running of The Haven Café, a community café based within the Haven Centre in Smithton. The café is open to members of the public as well as those who use the centre, and all profits generated help support the charitable aims of the Elsie Normington Foundation and future projects that benefit young disabled people across the Highlands.

The successful candidate will work alongside a team of volunteers and will be line managed by the Café Manager.

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the café
  • Preparing, cooking and serving food and snacks in line with the café menu, recipes and portion guidance
  • Helping ensure food is presented and served to a high standard
  • Operating the EPOS system and handling cash
  • Supporting the Café Manager with reviewing the menu, increasing footfall and maximising profitability
  • Assisting with the training and supervision of volunteers
  • Helping ensure all Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations are followed
  • Making sure cleaning methods, practices and schedules are followed at all times
  • Undertaking Barista training
  • Covering the Café Manager’s absence when needed, including opening and closing the premises and working additional hours as required
