Responsibilities:

  • Build, scale and evolve the design system, including the component library, design tokens and documentation.
  • Extend the design system for AI-assisted development using Storybook and machine-readable interfaces such as MCP.
  • Design component APIs that resist misuse by AI and human developers.
  • Write high-quality, performant frontend code with React and TypeScript.
  • Partner with design, product and engineering to define components and deliver production-ready solutions.
  • Make components accessible by default according to WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Own the developer experience of the design system, including documentation, guidelines, Storybook, component APIs, versioning and migration paths.
  • Implement and maintain theming, white labelling and localization/RTL support.
  • Continuously improve the system based on adoption metrics, contributor feedback and new platform capabilities.
  • Shape the technical direction of the design system over the next 6–12 months and champion adoption across teams.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience as a software engineer, including three years at senior level, building frontend platforms.
  • Real ownership of a design system or shared component library used across multiple products.
  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong React experience and familiarity with modern build tooling.
  • Strong command of component API design, versioning and the developer experience of shared libraries.
  • Experience or strong interest in making component libraries consumable by AI.
  • Solid understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility and web performance.
  • Experience building components to WCAG 2.2 AA / EN 301 549 and verifying accessibility with a keyboard and screen reader.
  • Strong sense of craft and attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance design intent with engineering constraints.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

  • Strong design sensibility.
  • Experience implementing multi-brand theming in production.
  • Experience with localization and internationalization including RTL.

  • Relocation support is available.
