Who You Are
We are seeking an experienced Prosecutions Lawyer specializing in prosecution and enforcement matters. You should be a qualified solicitor, barrister, Legal Executive, or equivalent, with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience in Prosecutions and Enforcement. You will have significant experience in at least one other relevant area of work such as Regulatory Crime, Fraud, Advocacy, or Environmental Health Crime. Excellent oral and written communication skills, a collaborative approach, and a willingness to develop further skills are essential. You should be able to provide informal coaching, engage positively with challenges, and work collaboratively to address customer concerns.
What the Job Involves
In this role, you will lead and motivate the legal team, ensuring high performance and the implementation of effective corporate/departmental practices. Key responsibilities include conducting complex legal matters with minimal supervision, advising and representing the council in routine and complex issues such as prosecutions under the Housing Act 2004, regulatory cases, and environmental health work. You will also be responsible for advocacy in court settings, supervising and mentoring colleagues, and deputizing for senior lawyers. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, contribute to the legal service team's management and strategy, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Information Security policies.
