Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and motivated finance professional to join our Pension Investments team as a Senior Finance Officer (Pensions Investment), helping to support the financial management and administration of the Pension Fund. You will play a leading role in ensuring the Fund's financial records, controls and statutory reporting requirements are delivered to a high standard, whilst providing specialist support across a range of pension fund finance activities.

You will support the production of the Pension Fund Annual Report and Accounts, maintain strong financial controls and reconciliations, liaise with external auditors and stakeholders, and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of Pension Fund finance processes.

The role will report to the Finance Manager and will support on a range of areas within the Pension Investments team:

  • Supporting the preparation of the Pension Fund Accounts and providing high-quality audit working papers.
  • Liaising with external auditors and responding to audit queries.
  • Monitoring employer contributions, cashflow and investment-related transactions.
  • Performing bank reconciliations, ledger control and other key financial controls.
  • Supporting budget monitoring, financial planning and statutory returns.
  • Acting as a key contact for Pension Fund finance enquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives, including process standardisation and automation.
  • Coaching and supporting colleagues to ensure high-quality and consistent service delivery.

This role offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) finance and investment administration whilst contributing to the management of a significant public sector pension fund. It is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a challenging environment and using their financial skills to add value and drive improvements.

The successful candidate will be AAT qualified, part-qualified CCAB, or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience. They will have strong financial reporting and analytical skills, excellent IT and Excel capabilities, and experience of working within a complex financial environment. Experience of local government or pension fund accounting would be advantageous. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, together with the ability to build effective relationships and explain financial matters clearly to a range of stakeholders.
