Responsibilities

  • Provide practical guidance to schools on attendance policy and the law.
  • Advise and support children and their parents/carers on promoting good attendance and punctuality.
  • Make recommendations to other agencies to provide vulnerable families with a holistic package of support.
  • Work independently, manage a demanding workload, prioritise tasks, and adopt a flexible approach to changing and competing challenges.
  • Promote equality of opportunity for all children, enabling access to appropriate educational entitlement.

Qualifications

  • Experience working as an Education Welfare Officer or in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of the education system, especially school attendance.
  • Ability to travel across the borough, carry out home visits, visit schools, and attend meetings.
  • Experience working in a school attendance role is essential.
