Enerveo has an extensive street lighting business that manages over 1 million street lights across the UK and Ireland. Through design, project management, consultancy, installation, and maintenance we play a major role in reducing energy consumption and carbon footprints, helping towns and cities become smarter, greener and more efficient, which benefits us all.

What will I be doing in this role? As a Highways Lighting Operative, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of highway lighting systems such as streetlights, traffic signs and other street furniture. Your primary goal will be to fix any faulty equipment quickly to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of lighting infrastructure to enhance visibility and road safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Some of your role will involve:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing lamps, cleaning fixtures, and repairing damaged or malfunctioning lighting components.
  • Respond promptly to reported lighting failures or outages and troubleshoot problems to determine the cause of the issue.
  • Carry out repairs and replacements of electrical components, including wiring, switches, ballasts, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with other team members to coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow and adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and equipment inventory.
  • Operate specialised equipment such as MEWPs and electrical testing devices to access and assess lighting fixtures located at elevated heights.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.

This role would suit someone who is looking to transfer from their existing role, perhaps from domestic or commercial electrical works, and learn new skills, gain additional qualifications and enjoy working outdoors.

What do I need to be successful in the role? We are looking for you to bring your previous experience working in the electrical/construction industry. We would also love you to have:

  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to use a hand‑held tablet to receive jobs and log repair reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all maintenance tasks.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights, using appropriate safety equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members and interaction with stakeholders and the public.

Some of our ‘nice to haves’ are:

  • We would look for you to hold IPAF/PASMA working at heights training.
  • It would be a benefit if you have knowledge of work within 18th Edition regulations.
  • If you are qualified to City & Guilds 2391, this would be a benefit but not essential.
  • Completion of the G39 Electrical Safety training course for the planning, installation, commissioning and maintenance of public lighting and other street furniture.

We can however support the right candidate to achieve any level of industry training or qualifications they may not have in the ‘nice‑to‑have’ list. Here at Enerveo, we know that some applicants don’t apply unless they think they tick all the boxes – but we are saying don’t worry! We would much rather see your application than risk missing out on your potential. We know our strength comes from our differences and shared life experiences, so we are committed to offering a safe work environment where individuals are respected.

What are the benefits? We know it’s not all about the money, so why not take a look at our benefits to see what we can offer you?
