SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Site Manager to oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our BESS facility. This role is responsible for managing site operations, coordinating and executing maintenance, correctives, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading onsite personnel and contractors. The Site Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for site-level performance, safety, and stakeholder communication, ensuring our storage assets deliver maximum value to the grid and our customers.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight – Lead day-to-day site operations, including monitoring performance, scheduling maintenance, and ensuring system availability.
- Oversee startup, shutdown, and control of BESS systems in coordination with operations control centers.
- Manage SCADA/EMS interfaces and track performance KPIs.
- Maintenance & Reliability – Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for batteries, inverters, transformers, and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Coordinate with OEMs, engineers, and third-party contractors to resolve technical issues.
- Implement root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime.
- Health, Safety & Compliance – Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, environmental, and local regulatory standards.
- Lead site safety culture, including toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, and emergency response planning.
- Maintain site records, permits, and reporting in line with regulatory and company requirements.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management – Supervise site technicians, contractors, and service providers.
- Act as the primary onsite representative for internal teams, regulators, landowners, and community stakeholders.
- Support training and development of staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Reporting & Administration – Prepare and present site performance reports, outage summaries, and compliance documentation.
- Manage site budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor contracts.
- Support asset management teams with financial forecasting, warranty management, and insurance claims.
- Open to all other duties needed by hiring manager.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, energy systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- NABCEP certification, OSHA 30, or NFPA 70E training.
- Prior site management experience in renewable energy (solar, wind, hybrid projects).
- Familiarity with performance guarantees, warranty obligations, and regulatory reporting.
- Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS).

Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, utility operations, or energy storage, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong background in high-voltage systems, power electronics, and/or battery storage technologies.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion BESS technology, SCADA/EMS platforms, and power distribution systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, site drawings, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in CMMS, asset management, and reporting tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple contractors and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an on-call rotation as required.
- Willingness to travel to other sites, as needed, for project work.
- Open to all other duties needed by hiring manager.
