The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

Requirement for an Electrical CAD Technician/Designer to support a team of electrical design engineers delivering high value protection and control schemes, and layout drawings for electricity distribution projects, based in Colchester with good rates of pay.

You will be required to:

  • produce high quality drawings in AutoCAD - 2D drafting of wiring diagrams, block diagrams, layout drawings, cable layout drawings;
  • 3D modelling in AutoCAD 3D or Revit;
  • accept engineering input from other members of the team;
  • follow best practice, and any relevant company procedures;
  • complete work to agreed time-scales and with minimal supervision;
  • provide guidance related to CAD modelling to other members of the team;
  • as required, support hardware and system issues.

It is desirable that:

  • you have experience of producing electrical design drawings for substation installations at 11 kV, 33 kV or 132 kV (66 kV);
  • you have an understanding of the electrical aspects of power supplies, substations or cabling projects;
  • ProjectWise drawing management;
  • you have knowledge of management of drawings in line with National Grid TP135 - Management of Drawings.

Ideally you will also be aware of:

  • Distribution Network Operator (DNO) requirements and working environment;
  • DNO/IDNO/ICP and other customer standard requirements;
  • Electrical and Safety clearances;
  • Electricity Network Regulations;
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) requirements in the electricity industry.

You should have the following skills:

  • confident, motivated and dynamic;
  • versatility – able to turn your hand to a wide range of proposals;
  • good verbal and paper communication skills;
  • working well under deadline pressure;
  • self-assessment/critique;
  • self-sufficient.

Required education:

  • it is desirable that as a minimum you possess an ONC/HNC/HND or equivalent.
