Our client, a prominent player in the construction industry, is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in Building Services to join their expanding team. This is a permanent position where you will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of high-quality mechanical systems for building projects across the UK and Ireland. The role requires a solid background in mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support the design and specification of mechanical building services systems in various sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial.
- Develop detailed mechanical designs including HVAC systems, heating and cooling systems, domestic hot and cold water services, renewable energy systems, compressed air and steam systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, schematics, and equipment schedules.
- Carry out mechanical design calculations for pipework, ductwork, pumps, fans, and plant selections.
- Prepare and review specifications, reports, and technical submittals.
- Collaborate with electrical, architectural, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated design solutions.
- Attend design team meetings, client briefings, and site visits.
- Mentor and support junior engineers.
- Ensure compliance with current UK and Irish regulations and standards.
Job Requirements:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit MEP for BIM modelling and clash detection.
- Significant experience with HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems in building services.
- Solid understanding of CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Part L, and BSRIA Application Guides.
- Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction strategies aligned with UK Net Zero targets.
- Experience using Hevacomp, IES VE, and MagiCAD for design and analysis.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and client engagement skills.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with lifecycle cost analysis and embodied carbon assessments.
- Knowledge of UK BIM Level 2 standards and ISO 19650.
- Experience in on-site construction support, commissioning, and witnessing.
- Familiarity with project delivery under RIBA Plan of Work stages.
