Energy Systems Catapult is an independent research and technology organisation. Our mission is to accelerate Net Zero energy innovation. Based in Birmingham, we participate in a network of technology and innovation centres to transform ideas into valuable products and services. The Catapult combines working from home with time in the Birmingham office (~40 days/year).
Responsibilities
- Hold full accountability for delivering projects on-time, on-budget, to scope, in line with the Catapultβs Project Management Lifecycle procedure, with daily interface with project teams.
- Work closely with Commercial Directorate during bid development, assessing deliverability of proposals and generating plans and resource profiles.
- Generate and ensure timely signoff of all project management documents needed for initiation, detailed planning, execution and closure.
- Establish strong customer relationships, lead regular external project reviews, and issue written project updates to key stakeholders.
- Manage project scope and lead customer negotiations on change.
- Engage and manage third-party suppliers, ensuring contractual outputs and outputs meet expectations.
- Ensure project compliance with Health and Safety, Data Protection, IP, and related policies.
- Identify, document and actively manage project risks and issues.
- Report on project progress and strategic insights.
- Ensure appropriate resourcing and negotiate with team leaders to address constraints.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of successfully delivering cross-functional projects.
- Professional Project Management Qualification (AMP or PMP) or currently working towards;
- Degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in managing collaborative projects with cross-functional teams including internal staff, consultants, external contractors, and public/private sector partners; ability to give clear direction and allocate tasks.
- Understanding of stakeholder engagement, Health and Safety, Data Protection, Intellectual Property, contractor management.
- Comfort with uncertainty typical of advanced innovation projects.
- Experience in an innovation environment with technical and commercial content; energy sector experience is advantageous but not required.
- Willingness to be hands-on in a small team; adaptability and flexibility.
- Excellent IT skills (MS Word, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel).
- Strong presentation and communication skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ownership mindset and effective workload management.
- Persuasive, approachable, and able to manage relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Open to change and able to handle setbacks or pressure constructively.
- Positive, supportive collaboration with colleagues and external organisations.
- Experience working with public sector partners is advantageous but not required.
- Proven ability to manage inter-organisational relationships with differing priorities.
