We are an innovative and market-leading software & services company based in Chorley serving clients in the utility sector ranging from new entrants to large existing suppliers. We deliver sophisticated software solutions and managed services in a Hybrid Cloud infrastructure, servicing both traditional and modern real‑time, smart energy clients. We operate a Hybrid working policy so you will be able to flex between working in the office and your home location to carry out this role, however during your initial training period the need to be in the office with other team members will be essential. Our UK office is based in Chorley, which is where you will be based. While this position is full‑time, we are open to discussing flexible working patterns that accommodate individual needs. The Data Migration Specialist will be responsible for planning, executing, and validating data migration activities as part of system implementation or transformation projects. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work closely with clients to understand their business context, translate requirements into migration templates, and support validation, assessment, and testing processes. As this is a new role to ESG, you will be expected to lead the charge with helping to shape and define the role and key responsibilities in conjunction with key internal stakeholders to ensure it delivers value to our internal teams and our customers. While the role operates within core working hours, as this is client‑facing, there may be occasional requirements to provide support during evenings or weekends for specific delivery projects or events.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Client Engagement & Requirements Gathering: Lead full lifecycle data migrations, including discovery, profiling, mapping, transformation, validation, and cutover. Work closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve data issues, and manage dependencies. Translate business context into detailed migration templates and mapping documents. Support go‑live activities including data load execution, troubleshooting, and post‑migration verification.
  • Data Analysis & Migration Design: Analyse and understand legacy data structures, source systems, and business rules to design accurate, maintainable mapping specifications. Develop migration strategies, including extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Validation & Testing Support: Design robust data quality checks, reconciliation routines, and validation frameworks to ensure accuracy and completeness. Support data validation and reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy and completeness of migrated data. Assist in designing and executing test plans for migration‑related scenarios, including mock runs and cutover.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of migration processes, templates, and validation results. Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement: Identify and resolve data migration issues promptly. Recommend improvements to migration methodologies and tools.

  • Strong SQL skills (MySQL, MS SQL or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in data migration projects, preferably in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, relational databases, and ETL concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and templates.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with data migration tools
  • Familiarity with data quality and governance principles.
  • Familiarity with JSON, XML, SFTP‑based data ingestion, and API‑based data sources.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Experience with parallel runs, audit frameworks, and regulatory data reporting.
  • Knowledge and experience of the UK Retail Energy sector
