About the Role
The Planning & Development Manager will support the planning and development requirements of renewable energy projects across the business, with a particular focus on solar.
The role will be responsible for managing planning applications and approvals, working closely with local authorities, consultants and internal teams to help ensure projects progress efficiently through the planning process.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the UK planning system, potentially gained within a local authority or planning environment, alongside an interest in renewable energy and sustainable development.

What you’ll do
Planning & Development
- Manage and coordinate planning requirements across roof-mounted, ground-mounted and carport solar projects.
- Prepare and submit Prior Approval and Full Planning applications.
- Prepare and coordinate building control notifications and applications.
- Liaise with local authorities and maintain effective working relationships throughout the planning process.
- Monitor multiple live applications, responding promptly to queries and helping to minimise delays.
- Manage the discharge of planning conditions and support teams to ensure developments are delivered in accordance with planning approvals.
- Carry out initial planning assessments of new opportunities to identify likely requirements, constraints and potential risks.
- Review and sign off feasibility studies and provide planning input to support programme and project risk management.
Technical & Design Support
- Produce and review accurate elevation drawings and other supporting planning documentation.
- Use CAD to support planning submissions and wider project requirements.
- Provide technical and planning support to other areas of the business, including the design team, where required.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
- Coordinate external consultants required to support feasibility studies, planning applications and project development.
- Work collaboratively with internal delivery, design and commercial teams to support the progression of projects.
- Where required, support the preparation and monitoring of DNO applications.
Knowledge & Experience
- Strong working knowledge of the UK planning system, including the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
- Understanding of the UK planning and environmental permitting landscape.
- Experience preparing and managing planning applications.
- Strong organisation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple applications and priorities simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of CAD and the ability to produce high-quality, accurate drawings.
- Experience within renewable energy, solar or a related development environment would be beneficial.
- Previous local authority planning experience would be advantageous.
- Experience with DNO applications and an existing network of planning or feasibility consultants would be beneficial.
