We are seeking a practical, self‑motivated Housing Property Maintenance Officer to support the upkeep, safety, and compliance of our Council’s temporary accommodation properties, with occasional work across the wider Council property portfolio. West Oxfordshire District Council is a forward‑looking council, putting first and working in partnership to support our communities. We are delivering an ambitious Council Plan for the district that is focused on important local priorities including affordable housing, climate and ecological action, helping our economy to grow and building communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out general maintenance tasks across properties, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and repairs.
  • Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance work within set timeframes.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Conduct compliance checks, including water hygiene monitoring and portable appliance testing (PAT).
  • Maintain properties and surrounding areas, including cleanliness, grounds upkeep, and safety.
  • Use initiative to identify issues and report or escalate where necessary.
  • Prioritise workload effectively, responding to urgent maintenance needs.
  • Communicate professionally with tenants, colleagues, and contractors.

Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 qualifications equivalent to NVQ level 2 or GCSE at Grade C/4 or above, must include Maths and English.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm and confident when dealing with challenging customers and environments.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
