Role Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Production Engineer to support the industrialization, scaling, and continuous improvement of advanced aerospace manufacturing operations, with an initial focus on composite manufacturing processes and production support. This role will work directly alongside the Principal Production Engineer to help develop and mature manufacturing systems, support production readiness activities, improve throughput, and assist in transferring knowledge, processes, and best practices from multiple sites into the company's primary manufacturing hub in or near Virginia. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment where priorities evolve quickly as production scales. This individual will serve as a key bridge between engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and production teams to ensure operational success.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support daily manufacturing operations with a primary focus on composite manufacturing and production processes.
- Assist with production readiness activities including tooling, fixtures, equipment, work instructions, and manufacturing flow optimization.
- Help identify and resolve production bottlenecks, manufacturing issues, and process.
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to manufacturing and quality concerns.
- Assist in developing scalable and repeatable manufacturing processes to support production ramp‑up.
- Support composite fabrication, assembly, curing, trimming, bonding, and related manufacturing.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, supply chain, facilities, and production teams to support manufacturing execution.
- Assist with implementation of engineering changes and support supplier coordination related to tooling, equipment, and production readiness.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, production engineering, aerospace, composites, or industrial operations.
- Experience supporting composite manufacturing processes strongly.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and production optimization.
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally and adapt in a rapidly evolving manufacturing environment.
- Aerospace or UAV manufacturing experience with composite tooling, molds, ovens, presses, or bonding.
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale‑up or facility ramp activities, and creating or improving work instructions and production.
- Familiarity with ERP, PLM, MES, or manufacturing tracking systems.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods of time in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 40 pounds with assistance as needed.
- Must have sufficient manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to perform assembly, inspection, and hands‑on production support tasks.
- Must be able to safely work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, moving equipment, chemicals, resins, and composite materials, with appropriate PPE provided.
- Must be able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required to support production floor activities and equipment interaction.
- Must have adequate visual acuity (with or without correction) to perform inspections, read technical documentation, and ensure product quality standards are met.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing, as needed.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and coordinate in a fast‑paced production environment.
