Quality & Food Safety Officer

About the Role

The purpose of your role will be to play a critical role for ensuring the quality and safety of food products by supporting and driving continuous improvements across manufacturing processes. Working closely with all departments, you will conduct process audits, use data and analysis to identify issues, and help implement effective, evidence‑based improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and resolve root causes of issues, using data analysis to determine trends. Identify opportunities for process improvement and work with different teams to fix issues and prevent them occurring again.
  • Conduct regular inspections of raw materials, production processes, and finished products to ensure they meet established quality standards. Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies, staying up to date with regulatory changes and best practice.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of HACCP to prevent food safety hazards. Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications. Collaborate with the procurement team to assess and monitor the quality of raw materials and ingredients from suppliers, and support emergency response procedures including product recall.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of quality control activities, test results, and non‑conformities in line with documentation requirements. Provide training to production personnel on processes, procedures, food safety practices, and hygiene standards. Manage complaints procedures and systems ensuring issues are always resolved.

Qualifications

  • Food science degree or related subject.
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations, HACCP, and GMP.
  • Experience in a similar food safety/compliance/technical role within food manufacturing would be highly advantageous.

Location & Compensation

The role is based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. Salary is £33,000 to £36,000 per annum depending on experience.
