The Process Engineer is responsible for evaluating new and existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process. The position requires working closely with manufacturing, management, purchasing, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing processes to improve safety, throughput, efficiencies, production yields, and costs.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership in all aspects related to production, including training of employees in the appropriate use of tooling, equipment, interpretation of assembly documentation, and lean tools, techniques, and practices.
- Interface with and give support, as required to Managers, Manufacturing, Test, Purchasing, Engineering, Process Documentation, and Materials.
- Coordinate with the various departments engaged in setting up or changing the manufacturing processes involved with the new or revised product.
- Establish standardized work, process flow, detailed procedures, and requirements for all phases of manufacturing to meet cost, quality, performance, and schedule requirements.
- Develop, improve, and monitor tooling for prototype and legacy products.
- Take responsibility for other essential duties, as determined by management.
- Lead and/or contribute to continuous improvement projects.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, electronics-manufacturing or similar field.
- Experience working with AS9100/ISO9001:2015 quality system and knowledge of IPC-A-610, 620, and J-STD-001 quality requirements.
- ISO13485 experience is a plus.
- Ability to develop tooling and fixtures utilizing CAD software.
- Ability to develop labour estimates for quoting.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Highly motivated individual with the capability of handling multiple projects in a rapidly changing environment while still meeting goals and deadlines.
Computer Skills:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office.
- Experience working with Solid Works or CAD/CAM modeling tools.
Education & Experience:
- Post-secondary education (technical certification, associate degree, bachelor’s degree) with at least 5 years of relevant work experience. Consideration will be given for additional years of experience in lieu of a formal degree.
- Proven record of accomplishments showing process improvement and the ability to streamline processes.
- Experience with tooling design, fixture, jig, and/or template creation desired.
- Experience working in a high-demand contract or OE manufacturing environment with electro-mechanical components and products.
- Demonstrated accomplishments leading and implementing quality improvement projects desired.
- Lean and/or Six Sigma Black Belt experience.
Working Conditions:
Work involves lifting materials and product up to 30 pounds.
