Position Overview
QinetiQ US seeks a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and maintain military and commercial hardware products, including ruggedized electronic equipment for maritime applications, robotic ground vehicles, and vehicle autonomy hardware. The role serves as a technical lead for existing and new products, evaluating design changes, performing analysis, overseeing tasks, reviewing documentation, and guiding team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands‑on support for mechanical design and product issues related to DOD pre‑production and production programs
- Perform electromechanical design, layout, and modeling of assemblies, robotic systems, and military hardware
- Participate in the formal engineering change process
- Design hardware products using 3D CAD modeling tools
- Oversee and task other engineers on project designs
- Check and approve design drawings
- Perform system‑level tolerance analysis
- Facilitate review meetings and present at all levels of formal design reviews
- Interface with vendors and identify sources for critical fabrication items
- Create detailed designs and drawings for fabrication
- Interface with customers on a project‑engineering level
- Participate in cost estimation for development programs
- Provide direction and guidance to other engineers and design staff
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- 5–12 years of mechanical design experience across the product lifecycle
- Experience in all phases of design and development, from concept to production
- Experience processing engineering changes on DOD programs
- Proficiency in metal fabrication design and electromechanical hardware design with manufacturing knowledge
- Experience with formal design/development processes, especially transitioning projects from prototype to production
- Proficient with 3‑D solid modeling software (PTC CREO and/or SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of design techniques and tools for precision plans, drawings, and models
- Experience with detailed drawing creation and geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
- Direct technical lead experience managing design tasks
- Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to obtain a DOD security clearance
Additional Qualifications
- Experience in model‑based definition
- Experience designing hardware for DoD maritime programs
Pay Transparency
The salary range for this role is $100,000–$130,000 USD, reflecting experience level. Compensation also considers role, function, responsibilities, relevant experience, location, education, training, and key skills.
