Head of FCAS Systems Design Co‑Ordination
World Class Defence Organisation is currently recruiting a Head of FCAS Systems Design Co‑Ordination (Systems Engineer Manager) subcontractor on an initial 6‑month contract.
Role Overview
Join the FCAS Programme within Systems Delivery Coordination. Support a team of 70 engineers, report directly to the Chief Systems Engineer (CSE), deputise for CSE with external partners and the Customer. Define sector‑wide engineering processes and coordinate across CSE organisation.
Responsibilities
- Senior engineering manager for the System Products & Technologies Task Group (CSE owned Task Group – SPaT)
- Recruitment, talent development and effective development plans for the team
- Manage mobility within the team, line‑manage the Systems Design Co‑Ordination & Transversals Team (SDCaT)
- Own activities assigned to SDCaT: human factors management, life‑services safety, product security, and weapon integration
- Programme‑wide engineering governance; ownership of project gates and design reviews
- Ownership of Engineering Management Plan and Systems Engineering Management Plan
- Stakeholder management: relationships with the customer, MOD and internal stakeholders
- Bid and long‑term planning for SDCaT
- Provide technical review of outputs from SPaT
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable ability to form and maintain strong relationships within the sector and with external partners
- Strong leadership to develop individuals' roles on projects and provide opportunities
- Excellent understanding of multiple stakeholder needs and alignment within a wider business context to support decision‑making
- Ability to influence and drive a narrative
- Fantastic attention to detail with excellent organisational and communication skills
Contract Details
Rate: £80.00 per hour
Location: Bristol, Stevenage or Bolton
Hybrid/Remote: Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite (department can offer a compressed 4‑day week Monday to Thursday)
Contract: 37 hours per week, overtime paid at time and a quarter
Duration: 6 months (initially with potential for ongoing long‑term engagement)
IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)
