Job Description

Due to increased workload, the Mechanical Analysis Group is looking for an experienced stress engineer to lead the structural design and development of a next complex weapon platform. You will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams across our UK sites to develop an advanced aerospace structural solution.

Salary: Circa £58,000 depending on experience.

Location: Stevenage (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role).

Dynamic (hybrid) working: Minimum 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification.

Security Clearance: British or a Dual UK with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply.

All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Clearance (SC) checks, which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Principal Stress Engineer Opportunity

The Mechanical Analysis Group is responsible for the structural and thermal performance of MBDA's military systems. We deliver structural and thermal analysis expertise across the whole product lifecycle, from early concept studies to detailed design, manufacturing concessions and in‑service support.

Our breadth of work provides opportunities to gain experience across a wide range of structural analysis disciplines, including classic hand calculations, CAE modelling (Static, Dynamic, Fatigue, Aeroelastics, Non‑Linear, Impact, Kinematic), qualification & design testing, fault investigation & loads derivation. Qualifications and Experience

  • Ideally degree‑qualified in a relevant engineering or science discipline, or have significant experience in a related field (e.g., Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural Analysis).
  • Proven experience in estimating, planning, leading and delivering a variety of structural analysis work packages, using both classical hand calculation methods and CAE tools (Hyperworks desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present comprehensive technical reports, conveying complex findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Proactive and passionate about developing and improving methods, processes and tools.
  • Able to mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering their professional growth.
  • Self‑motivated, excellent problem solver, capable of working independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to network, influence and manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Composite stress analysis experience is an asset.
  • Willingness to obtain and hold DV clearance is an asset.
