Overview

London | Hybrid Working

£60,000 - £75,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

There is a big difference between simply tracking projects and genuinely influencing how they are delivered. This opportunity sits at the point where design, programme, commercial management and delivery risk all come together. You will not be operating as a passive coordinator sitting on the sidelines updating trackers. You will be part of the group helping drive projects forward when complexity, stakeholder pressure and commercial challenges increase.

Why this role tends to resonate with the right people:

  • A lot of the individuals we have spoken with for this opportunity enjoy the technical, commercial and operational side of project delivery but often feel frustrated being too far removed from the design process itself.
  • This role offers the opportunity to apply strong delivery, NEC, programme and commercial experience within a far more multidisciplinary, design-led and creative project environment.

It is particularly well suited to individuals who:

  • enjoy bringing structure to complex projects
  • like operating at the centre of multidisciplinary teams
  • understand how design decisions impact programme and cost
  • want more influence across the wider delivery process
  • enjoy balancing technical, commercial and stakeholder challenges simultaneously

What the role actually involves:

You will play a key role across complex live projects, helping manage how multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and contractors operate together within demanding delivery environments. This includes:

  • leading multidisciplinary coordination
  • managing programme and delivery risk
  • overseeing design change and change control processes
  • operating within NEC contract environments
  • managing Early Warnings and Compensation Events
  • balancing commercial, programme and design pressures
  • helping maintain accountability across project teams
  • driving projects forward when challenges arise

This is not purely an administrative Design Management role. The environment requires individuals who can think commercially, communicate clearly and confidently manage difficult stakeholder situations when required.

The type of background that tends to align well:

You may currently be operating:

  • contractor-side within Design Management or Project Management
  • within infrastructure or major projects environments
  • inside a multidisciplinary consultancy
  • or within technically demanding live delivery settings

The strongest candidates typically demonstrate:

  • strong NEC3 / NEC4 exposure
  • commercial and contractual awareness
  • multidisciplinary consultant coordination experience
  • confidence operating within live project environments
  • proactive stakeholder management capability
  • the ability to challenge and influence when needed
  • calmness and structure under pressure

Importantly, this role is not just about coordinating information flow. It is about helping control how projects are delivered.

Why this opportunity stands out:

The business behind this opportunity has an established multidisciplinary environment where Design Management sits at the centre of project leadership rather than operating purely as a support function. You will be joining a team where:

  • commercially aware thinking is valued
  • project leadership is trusted
  • multidisciplinary collaboration is embedded into the culture
  • and long-term progression genuinely exists

Alongside this, the role offers:

  • hybrid working
  • bonus and strong benefits package
  • exposure to complex large-scale projects
  • highly collaborative working culture
  • long-term progression opportunities

For individuals looking to apply strong delivery and commercial experience within a broader, more design-led project environment, this represents a particularly compelling opportunity. Importantly, our client remains open-minded regarding background and job title where candidates can clearly demonstrate the core experience and behaviours required for the role. As such, applicants who may not yet formally hold the title of Senior Design / Project Manager but who possess strong relevant exposure across NEC environments, commercial/change management, multidisciplinary coordination and live project delivery are still strongly encouraged to apply.

In several cases throughout the search, the most compelling candidates have been individuals whose experience aligned particularly well with the operational and commercial challenges of the role itself, even if their years of experience or formal title sat slightly outside a traditional route. Our client is actively reviewing applications and moving quickly on strong profiles, so we would encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.
