Job Description

Docklands based Data Centre Technical Manager. A global DC organisation requires a Technical Manager to take the helm of a major DC in the Docklands area. Ideally you will have mission‑critical facilities experience and relevant M&E qualifications which are essential for this post.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Technical Services Manager with all day‑to‑day maintenance activities, including specialist subcontractors, suppliers and support teams.
  • Maintain logbook systems and statutory compliance monitoring, and assign reactive tasks.
  • Apply the Risk Management Framework through effective management of SOP, MOP and EOP.
  • Work to gain SAP level for HV operations.
  • Operate all systems within the building—HV isolations and operations—competently, effectively and efficiently, with due regard to business risk and energy use.
  • Make recommendations for improvement and provide concise technical reports when required.
  • Drive technical development of all engineering team members to enhance competency.
  • Attend weekly operations meetings and client meetings as requested.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly engineering reporting.
  • Promote a culture of energy saving and environmental sustainability within the team.
  • Operate and troubleshoot the following systems:
    • HV & LV electrical systems
    • Building management system
    • Lighting control system
  • Manage the following equipment and systems:
    • Emergency lighting
    • Air conditioning system (DFUs, FCUs, AHUs and ACUs)
    • Air‑cooled water chillers
    • Free cooling / dry cooling towers
    • Adiabatic cooling system
    • Variable speed drives
    • Boilers and heating system
    • Single‑phase and three‑phase motors

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in data centre or critical environment operations.
  • Practicing HV authorised person, regularly writing schedules and switching recognised qualification to at least City & Guilds Level 3, BTEC, ONC or HNC level for electrical/mechanical engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Knowledge of the 18th Edition IEE Wiring and Installation (2nd amendment).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct a small team of technicians/operatives.
  • Proactive in achieving the highest standard of operation.
  • Experience with safe systems of work, including but not limited to limitations of access, fire systems isolation requests, permit‑to‑work, and associated high‑risk permits such as low‑voltage (LV) and high‑voltage (HV), electrical and mechanical isolations, working at height, hot works, mechanical, high‑pressure, excavations, and confined spaces.
  • Good understanding of SOP, MOP, EOP, OEM, S‑MOP, CEP and SoS acronyms within a data centre environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm and clear, delivering required services to the client within given time constraints.
