Quantity Surveyor – Torbay Area, Full Time | Permanent.

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth, this respected contractor seeks an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This role offers the chance to play a key part in prestigious residential projects and become a vital part of a supportive, forward‑thinking business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple high‑end residential projects.
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate interim valuations with client representatives.
  • Manage variations, including identification, valuation and agreement with clients and consultants.
  • Procure and manage subcontract packages.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the supply chain.
  • Assess and agree subcontractor valuations and variations.
  • Prepare and negotiate subcontractor final accounts.
  • Prepare and agree client final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs and report on commercial performance.
  • Support project teams with contractual and commercial advice.
  • Administer contracts, predominantly under the JCT Intermediate Form of Contract.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and cost planning.
  • Contribute to monthly commercial reporting processes.
  • Support estimating and tendering of new projects where appropriate.

About the Candidate

We are looking for someone who is commercially astute, organised, proactive, and able to work collaboratively across both internal and external teams.

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, particularly JCT Intermediate Contracts.
  • Experience managing valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Confidence in dealing directly with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Relevant construction qualifications (HNC/HND, degree or equivalent) desirable.
