Job Description
Applications are invited for a full-time Project Manager to join a fast‑growing, enthusiastic team at a University of Cambridge spin‑out company, developing innovative space telescopes for thermal imaging Earth Observation applications. We are seeking an accomplished PM to lead the delivery of complex and strategically significant technology projects within a dynamic and evolving programme environment. This role is ideal for an experienced professional with a proven record of managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering high‑value technical outcomes.
The successful candidate will provide project leadership, ensure robust governance, and drive effective planning and delivery across assigned workstreams. This position offers the opportunity to operate across high‑profile initiatives and collaborate with senior stakeholders to achieve impactful results.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct day to day management of projects in line with agreed scope, schedule, and quality objectives.
- Build and maintain project plans and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Provide effective controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.
- Monitor project performance, oversee budgetary control and resource allocation, and ensure financial accountability.
- Identify and mitigate risks and issues within assigned projects, working with related projects to manage interdependencies; ensure that records are up to date, and escalation routes are utilised promptly.
- Provide project reports for dissemination to Programme Management and senior leadership supporting effective governance. Present information to Programme Management where required and address challenges.
- Foster a culture of delivery excellence by embedding best practice tools, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with technical teams, stakeholders and partner organisations.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience in leading the delivery of complex technology projects or programmes, ideally involving integrated hardware and software components or novel technologies.
- Demonstrable expertise in developing project structures and delivery plans covering scope, milestones, resourcing, risk, and budget.
- Working knowledge of structured project management frameworks (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, APM) and best practice governance.
- Proven ability to operate in complex stakeholder environments, providing clear leadership and decision-making.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with experience presenting to governance forums.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with public sector delivery environments, including grant‑funded programmes or government agency operations.
- Experience or strong interest in the space sector or other advanced technology domains.
